Counselling and
Psychotherapy
Over more than 25 years practicing as a massage therapist, I found many of my clients wanted to talk and share their thoughts and the difficulties they were facing in their lives as well as receive the healing touch of massage, so starting my training to become a counsellor in 2012 seemed the most logical way forward for me. It had become clear too that mind and body were not just two sides of the same person, but inextricably entwined and responding to life events together, perhaps even unconsciously.
I believe talking therapy can change lives, helping people grow and become stronger physically and emotionally, but I also know that no two people are the same, so there are no 'one size fits all' treatments. I combined different types of massage during my treatments, depending on the needs of my client and now, as an integrative psychotherapist, I do the same thing, as I draw on different models of therapy.
I have experience in working with a range of issues including
-
anxiety
-
depression
-
self-esteem
-
gender and sexuality
-
relationship difficulties
-
stress
-
childhood and domestic abuse
-
work-related issues
-
pregnancy and childbirth
-
suicidal thoughts
I hold a Professional Diploma in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy (NPCS Accredited) and I am a member of the National Society of Counselling and Psychotherapy (NCPS).
I was on the Board of Trustees at Share Psychotherapy for 7 years, where I was also a volunteer therapist for 12 years, and on the register of counsellors for SAYiT, an organisation supporting LGBT+ young people from the inception of the counselling service.
